Scottish Tartans and Gifts To Celebrate The Scottish Spirit !

The kilt Shop has had a rich history of bringing traditional Scottish wear in all its glory to you. Established in 1947, we have been offering quality Highland wear, Scottish tartans and gifts that have been loved by every purchaser.

The kilt Shop was started by Alexander Burnside from Dundee. He sourced these traditional Scottish tartans and gifts from authentic craftspeople. He owned several shops where he offered these articles.

The stores became popular as more people purchased  Scottish kilts, tartans, accessories and gifts. Burnside's daughter married enterprising Richard Doig who then joined by taking over one of his father-in-law's shops.  Burnside continued trading in Highland clothing, Scottish tartans and gifts until he retired in 1970 .

Our business  expanded thanks to the foresight of Richard Doig (snr).  Richard's four sons: Richard, Andrew, Douglas and Alex  brought their own innovative touch to the business. They have run the business since Richard Doig (snr)passed away in 1991. To their credit, they now have shops also in Perthshire, selling quality Scottish clothing at the best possible price.

 Over the past seven years, a thriving tartan hire  has developed  in our shops at Forfar, Carnoustie and Montrose (Angus). In Forfar we hire an average 2,200 Scottish outfits a year.

We also have expanded our stock of kilt accessories

We  acquired Alex Dalgety & Son, Forfar (Angus) in 2001, a business with over 138 years of Highland wear experience & the rights to sell the "Guthrie" tartan.

 We also designed our own "Doig" tartan ( read more about it on doig.net)
